Bonneville Speed Trials Update

With each passing day we focus more and more on preparing Pi X for the 2007
event scheduled to open on September 2nd. We have yet to collect any speed
data and so the million dollar question still looms: how fast will Pi X
go? In the meantime, here are some images and updates relating to this year's
activities (and last).

We were honored to have Soderling Productions document our electric bicycle
speed record effort in 2006 (see coverage here) and with any luck (ours),
this extraordinary group of professional shooters will return to the Bonneville
Salt Flats in 2007 (September 2nd - 7th), to pick up the story... To see
the slideshow of last year's event—our entry is the bike decorated
with the American flag—last
year's Bonneville event posted on Soderling Productions web site, click
here, then click on first slide's thumbnail image at top of page, and then
use the left and right arrow keys on your keyboard to move to subsequent
slides.
...in 2007 we are returning with the first gas-electric hybrid moped to
ever compete at the legendary event. This year, with 28 horsepower combined—electric
motor and gas engine horsepower—in a motorcycle (moped, specifically)
that weighs only 65 pounds, it should allow us to best last year’s
mark. Check out Pi X
Bonneville Racer here to see what we’re campaigning...
Meanwhile, one of our favorite motorcycle periodicals, Barnett's Magazine, has also captured some of our salt encrusted antics. Tip: from Barnett's home page, navigate to "Events/Shows" and then to bikes and finally to "Bonneville Speed Trials, Issue 55, May/June '07."
NEWS FLASH

We are exceptionally proud to announce that a new sponsor has become a member
of the Team Electrobike family: ”OLIVE WORKS,” whose slogan “Eat
More Olives” pretty much says it all. And not only will Olive Works
be a sponsor, but Ms. Kate Ingber, proprietor, will be co-driving! Kate is
also producing what is sure to be a true collectible commemorating the 2007
campaign: an Olive Works T-shirt with what has to be the hottest flaming olive
ever dipicted...

The world’s best racing promotion organization runs the motorcycle speed
record trials at Bonneville: Speed
Bub Racing Bonneville Speed Trials. The quality of Speed Bub’s
management team in total and the Manning’s personal approach to dealing
with the many issues that invariably arise during an event of this magnitude
(like letting an electric bike run with 350 mph streamliners!) makes the many
trials and tribulations of attempting land speed records worth every sweaty
moment.

Speed Trials Update

Electrobike left Bonneville on September 7th owning the
outright AMA land speed record in the United States for an electric powered
motorcycle.
Our speed, averaged over two combined runs, was 64.5 mph. The bike was easily capable of 90 mph, but the salt and weather conditions made additional attempts impossible.
Considering the standing record of three years was 22 mph and considering the Electrobike weighed 63 kilograms (in a field of bikes weighing in as much as 450 kilograms) this accomplishment is all the more impressive.
Hats off to the entire Electrobike team of who worked tirelessly and our driver Ms. Kate Ingber, whose business-like approach to the piloting was amazing to watch.
The Bonneville activity will be a key element of our spring '08 introduction of the new electric and electric hybrid motorcycles.
And look for the electric bicycle at Design Within Reach www.dwr.com in October 2007.
Next up: land speed record runs at El Mirage Dry Lake November 10th and 11th.

Unveils Revolutionary New Portable Solar Battery Charger

Because this is part of the rear rack and saddle bag, anyone with
an electric bicycle or electric motorcycle (between 12 V and 48 V) could use
it. Of course, we'll first offer it with our own Electrobike line, but because
it's also one more step toward a lower carbon footprint, the door will be
open for others as well to adopt it.
